2 PM – ADVANCED HAUNT ACTING: DIALOGUE & CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Speaker – Frank Mamana – This seminar is for actors, cast managers and actor trainers.  Extremely good acting makes an average haunted house seem great. Poor acting will make a good haunted attraction seem lame.  Haunt acting should be compared and contrasted to theatrical and screen acting.  We have advantages over those types of acting, and we should know how to use it.  To be effective, a haunt actor should have an understanding of the psychology of fear, and how to use that as a tool. Another tool is to understand how to use a scene or cue line. We’ll examine how to size up a scene to be effective. Creating an effective character requires an understanding the attraction and the scene. Dialogue should be developed that is unique for the character and room. Actors might be a distraction actor or startle actor and require different strengths.  This seminar looks at all of this and more, emphasis on more, to create a high level of acting. And for a haunt, the acting has to be consistently good, not on and off. – SPACECOAST BALLROOM

2 PM – MAKE & TAKE: USING FOAM IN ARCHITECTURAL HAUNT CONSTRUCTION

Speaker – Roger Hayes – Learn how to use foam sheets in architectural structures for your haunt. Build crypts, mausoleums, gothic arches, facades, churches and anything else you can imagine, but in a way so it will hold up to winds and weather. Build using techniques that will allow you to store it flat to save space and set up and take down quickly. While learning these concepts you will assemble a small foam crypt kit that will demonstrate the use of these ideas and you can take home to use as a reference for your own designs. The crypt also makes a handy fog machine cover or a cover for just about anything else you want to hide.
